The Association of Research Libraries welcomes the active participation of libraries wishing to further the goals of the German Resources Project, and to make use of its programs and services. There are two types of membership for institutions wishing to participate in the Project: Association Membership for ARL member libraries, and Affiliate Membership for non-ARL libraries. As a working project of ARL's Global Resources Program, the German Resources Project will give special consideration to the needs of ARL member libraries in structuring its goals and programs.

ARL asks that a library formally join the Project if one or more its staff are interested in participating in Project activities and in furthering its goals. Likewise, Association or Affiliate Membership is necessary for a library to take part in Project activities or to make use of its services (like GBVdirekt/North America). The level of involvement depends on the degree to which individual institutions wish to devote staff resources to furthering the goals of the Project. Such a formal commitment permits better coordination and management of the activities of the German Resources Project. As with any collaborative ARL endeavor, success is a product of institutional commitment and active participation.

For individuals wishing to become involved in the German Resources Project, see the Call for Participation elsewhere at this site.

Becoming an institutional member of the Project is not difficult. At the present time there is no financial obligation in becoming a formal participant in the German Resources Project. ARL member libraries will automatically be given Association Member status, and non-ARL libraries will become Affiliate Members in the Project. However, depending on the success of efforts to secure external funding to continue project activities, at a future time ARL may require participating libraries to contribute financially to the administrative support of the project. At that time, institutions will have the opportunity to reconsider participation in the project.

To indicate interest in formal participation in the German Resources Project, a library's director or chief collection development officer should contact Deborah Jakubs, Director of the AAU/ARL Global Resources Program.
