Re: First meeting of the Working Group
Enclosed please find the agenda and accompanying documents for the first meeting of the Working Group. The meeting is scheduled to start at 10a.m. on Tuesday, December 13th in the conference room at the ARL office, 21 Dupont Circle, N.W., suite 800. The meeting will conclude no later than 4:00p.m.
The primary purpose of the meeting is to establish the program plan for the German Demonstration Project. The project seeks to improve coverage of and timely access to German publications in the field of political science in North American research libraries through cooperation in collecting and digitizing these materials. Four enclosed documents provide a context for the discussions. The first is a summary of the study of German political science collections in U.S. research libraries. The second is a status and background report on the steps that have been taken so far. The third document is the grant proposal that was submitted on October 18 to the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. The grant proposal is patterned after the proposal for the Latin American Demonstration Project. It will serve as a starting point for the discussion of the project scope and project activities. Finally, enclosed is a preliminary listing of the most significant German collections.
We appreciate your willingness to work with us on this project. I look forward to a productive and lively session.
