- Through ongoing studies ascertain whether North American libraries are comprehensively, or even sufficiently, collecting materials in the various fields of German cultural studies.
- Improve document delivery and interlibrary loan for German-language materials, both among ARL libraries and between German and North American research libraries.
- Propose, design, and coordinate the development of digital library collections of interest to both German and American research libraries.
- Strengthen bibliographic control of German-language materials by improving the quality and timely cataloging of German materials in North American libraries, by improving the sharing of data with the German library and publishing communities, and by fostering a closer working relationship with cataloging librarians in German libraries.
